Jane Hayes (Keri Russell, TV’s Felicity, The Americans) is a Jane Austen obsessed single woman who is desperately searching for her own Mr Darcy. Austenland, a regency Westworld and the ultimate Jane Austen experience, seems to be the answer to her prayers, so Jane spends her life savings to buy an old fashioned love affair of her own.
In Austenland all participants are promised a romance. However, the fact that Jane can only afford the copper package, leaves the men on ten thousand pounds a year to Miss Elizabeth Charming (a hilarious Jennifer Coolidge, Legally Blonde, Best In Show), a rich American who is mainly there for the frocks. Below stairs, Jane’s flirtation with groundskeeper Martin (Bret McKenzie, Flight of the Concords) sparks something new and real, but can Jane give up on the Mr Darcy dream?
Based on the 2007 novel of the same name by Shannon Hale and marking the directorial debut of Jerusha Hess (co-writer of Napoleon Dynamite), Austenland is an irresistibly light and funny film for women who dream of dark and broody.
